Spiffing up, a bit

Much fun today pottering around seeking out the gentleman’s outfitters of Liverpool. Turns out there aren’t many decent ones, but happy with the few things that I was able to get. For one thing, donning a waistcoat makes me feel like I’m 18 again.

Having mainly bought jeans and t-shirts for the last 15 years, it’s a bit of a wake-up call when buying some decent clothes again, but I’m happy with the stash that I returned with. In particular, I’m very pleased with my new pair of Docs.

My discovery at the Dr Martens shop was that they now do a “Lifetime Guarantee” version of their 1461 shoe which I’ve worn for the past 25 years or so. For £140 you buy a pair of shoes and then when worn out they replace them for a “small” fee (£20, I’m told). I could well have saved quite a bit of cash with this, and I’m very tempted.

When Lily was going to bed tonight, she was bemoaning the fact that Joel hadn’t had to wait until he was 10 until he got an ipad. By her logic, Joel had got an ipad before her – despite there being a good eight days between them getting one. The point being that she was 10 and Joel was 8. Similarly, there are 20-year-olds walking into the Dr Martens shop and buying the lifetime guarantee shoes, who will enjoy endless replacements at a reasonable price for a good 25 years more than me. I think I know how she feels.

Nothing Earth shattering to report back on the exercising. I crow-barred in my 30-minute walk by heading into town to buy the guinea fowl and stewing steak from Scotts butchers. The walk back was more of a potter. I was also forwarded a 13-week 10k programme which looks compelling. I’ve scheduled it in and will crack on tomorrow.

At the moment, I’m happy just to admire the boots which is fun enough.
