Somehow while I was away my list of due tasks exploded from around 50, to over 230. I use todoist which works a treat, but I need to keep on top of the ever-expanding list of things that need to be done. The danger is putting a date on something that isn’t really date bound or putting a date on something where it’s not really important or urgent. By taking your eye off the ball for a few days, it’s possible for all those irrelevant or small things that need mopping up sometime to flood into sight and stop the important stuff from being done.
That’s what happened over the weekend. So most of the day was taken up just working through the list, rescheduling or re-prioritising things and marking off those tasks that had already been done.
At some point I should make a note of the project and tagging system that I’m using. It’s not perfect, but it means that when I’m on a roll, I can whizz through things pretty effectively.
One of the things that would always catch me out is the car insurances. Thankfully, I’d made a note to put the two cars onto a joint policy before renewal was due (in the next few weeks). For the past few years I’d kick myself for not having done the legwork to check what the prices were. As it turned out, I was able to get the two cars insured for about the same price as Jude’s car previously. Given that my car insurance was approximately 60% more than Jude’s, it’s quite a considerable saving. Plus we merged AA and RAC memberships into a better policy that cost less than Jude’s old one with the AA. I’m very happy about that.
We’re also back into the normal day of dropping the children off at 8 and picking up at 3:30. I very nearly didn’t leave the house in time for the half-hour walk to the school, but I made it out at about 3:01 and looped around the centre of town a couple of times to make up the 30 minutes. There was about 20 minutes where it rained, a lot, but if you’re going to go out every day, I suppose it means taking it on the chin. Although I feel terrible about dragging the kids through the rain sometimes.
Jude was at the physio this evening and didn’t get home until after 7:20. By the time we had finished dinner, and caught up (I hadn’t seen Jude since Saturday) and reviewed some code that she had written, it was past 9pm and there was no chance I’d get to the gym. So I did the dumb-bell parts of the programme here instead. I was thinking that it was going to be easy, but it turns out that doing four sets of ten reps can be quite difficult. Especially when you get to the sixth set of exercises. I’m quite achey, which is a good sign for a new programme.
Today: 40 minutes strength training at home and 5.6k walking.
